->> Can anyone recommend an inexpensive digital voice recorder that produces a decent quality audio file.
Thanks |

| ->> Most cell phones have a recording option that does a decent job. |

| ->> Define inexpensive. The Zoom H1 is about $100 and has excellent sound quality. It's like a shrunken (cheapened) Zoom H4. Available online and at most Best Buys. |

->> Depends on what you consider inexpensive . . . Then again, most threads I've seen say don't cheap out on the audio (like why would you spend thousands on camera gear only to have a cheap, crappy recorder).
Among options (H1 mentioned above) would be Olympus LS-10 or LS-11, Zoom H4N, Sony PCM-M10 or if you want to spend more, a Marantz 661. Don't forget to factor in the cost of a good mic as well.

->> It also depends on your needs. If you just want to make notes during an event then I have an Olympus WS750 that does fine and it works pretty well when using it during one to one interviews to get quotes for an article. It is a little bigger than a USB modem (dongle) so doesn't take up space in already full pockets or bags.
If you want something better and / or for producing audio for a video then as PJ suggests there are a variety of other models. I will add that Zoom are bringing out a new version of the H4. Not sure if this is the H4n as it isn't due for UK release until sometime this month but it may be worth checking if you like the specs so you can either get the latest version or a good deal on the older model.
Whichever type you require check the type of file they create (there are several threads on here giving advice on converting types) Also not all models appear to have a built in speaker so depending on your need it could be inconvenient to plug an earpiece in after each interview to check the recording. |

| ->> +1 for the Zoom H-1. I does an excellent job of recording plus it can be used as a stereo mic when plugged into a DSLR shooting video. |

| ->> The voice recorder on the iPhone 4 (if you have one) is good for general audio recording. |

| ->> Another H1 endorsement. If you go with an iPhone down the road, try the BlueFire app. I'm shocked at how nice it records in certain applications, and have mixed it in with pristine Marantz audio without a hitch. |
