->> Animated gifs have come a long way from the flashing "Welcome" banners of early websites! I remember liking the dancing baby animation in the 90s and the format seemed to disappear for a while in favor of Flash, but I'm glad to see people exploring gifs to their potential again.

They're digital moving pictures from the 90's before video got dreamed up. They compress each frame individually so you benefit from having a really slow framerate (also helped the video cards at the time)... So they lend themselves to very unique situations (unfortunately, banner ads are one of them)... Browser support is almost 100% too. |
