Biggest joke of a media policy

->> This has to be the biggest jokes of a media policy for an event I have ever seen. I literally bursted out laughing after reading this. Not only does it read like it was written by a 12 year old , but they expect you to pay for a credential I mean "media pass" and give them images. It's good for a few laughs.

->> "Nppl reserves the right to remove any personnel with a media pass off the fields and barred them from shooting the remainder of the event..."
I get tense when credential policies are drafted by the semi-literate. |

| ->> Yes, it sounds like it is written by some 8th graders, but it is does sound like they are only asking for images and money from those who are not with a media outlet. Other sports charge fans and licensees for access as well. Still, it is all very strange |

->> Luke, the way I read it, if you are shooting for a legitimate publication there is no charge for a credential. If you are shooting for a team, or to sell your photos to the players, then there is a charge. Sounds fair to me. That's no different than a Little League baseball league asking for a cut of the T&I sales.
I've been shooting the NPPL for about 10 years, and I think these changes were necessary. When I first started shooting the league there were only a few photographers on the field, but through the years that number has increased. Everyone wants to be inside the nets, and for a while all you had to do was put on a mask and carry a camera and you were good. |

| ->> While I agree that there isn't much depth of talent displayed for the written word ... but "Legit Media" is NOT required to purchase or share anything ... only "Photography Companies" and "Non Media" entities ... while it may not be the standard procedure ... it does appear that bona fide members of the working press are not treated differently than for other sports/events ... |

->> Luke, in case you missed the first line:
"
1. Legit Media photographers/videographers or freelancers shooting for or from a Magazine or online magazine.
Must Register Online(send request on line with company info and proof of business)
I'm not seeing where media has to pay. |

| ->> After reading it again it does appear that members of the media are not charged or have to give up photos. When I originally read the release I was under the impression that everyone had to give up images to the league... Maybe it would be less confusing if it was written and formatted correctly. |

| ->> I'm with Chuck on how it doesn't directly affect legitimate media. It looks like it's written to take advantage of GWC's and rich hangers-on. But what this does is potentially takes away work from freelancers who would charge the sanctioning body to shoot events. |

->> We are talking about paint ball dudes, not legal minds. There a a lot of people with cameras shooting at these events, and there is a need to control access by those not representing media outlets. Then again, a few minutes in Photoshop and you too can have a really cool looking media credential that will get you into paint ball tourneys.
And, as the coming of age texting geneation gets older, English will be changing. |
