->> Got an email this morning from the good folks over at Canon telling me that they will stop offering the 20% service discount on CPS silver member repairs. They go on to urge me to upgrade to the gold membership.
I've got to go back to the fine print of the agreement and see if they have the right to take my membership fee, then eliminate benefits less than halfway through the membership term. If that's their plan, yeah, I can't wait to upgrade to the gold membership so they can do it to me again. |

->> This is an important announcement concerning CPS Silver Membership.
Effective October 1, 2011 CPS will no longer offer the 20% service discount currently being applied to CPS Silver Member repairs.
As a professional photographer, CPS understands that extended down time due to equipment repairs can be detrimental to good business. Therefore, we will continue to offer CPS Silver Members pro standard turn around times on repairs and access to the CPS Member Only 24/7 contact phone number and email, along with access to content on the CPS website including posted CPS supported Events, Shows and Workshops in your area.
Further, we encourage CPS Silver Members to explore the expanded support a CPS Gold Membership offers. CPS Gold Membership includes 3-day expedited repairs at a 30% discount along with many other benefits. Also, during the month of October we are offering a promotion when upgrading to a CPS Gold Membership that will include one (1) additional Free Clean & Check coupon. This coupon would be included along with the other items in your CPS Gold Membership Welcome Kit. Please visit the CPS website for a complete list of member benefits. |

->> Looks like Canon has forgotten our unhappiness over their very recent quality control debacles, topped by the Mark III fisaco.
I certainly haven't forgotten. |

->> I bet Alan is already a gold member, the email sent out makes it seem like they are sending it to silver members, I thought the same thing at first, then realized I was already a gold member and this didn't effect my membership.
Having said "gold member" twice, I can't help but think of Austin Powers....hehe |

| ->> The $100 for gold membership is money well spent when you consider the cost of two cleanings, expideted turnaround times, overnight shipping, 30% discount and the goodies (which can fetch at least half the fee when sold). What does it cost to rent a 400mm 2.8 for a week? Anywhere fron $200 to $300? And you can get one for free through CPS. For a hundred bucks most folks out there can justify expense. |

| ->> and I am now a Platinum member and I got the same email. I upgraded this year because the value of the Think Tank gift, the 6 clean and check certifcates and the neck straps are far more than the $500 the membership costs. |

->> CPS Silver is FREE. You need only the right gear to qualify. So the initial rant here is completely baseless.
Having the gold or platinum memberships are pretty good value if you are an individual, based on the perks like free cleanings, shipping, etc. CPS does take really good care and does member repairs at a good price. |

| ->> $500 for the Platinum CPS membership is a big hit on the budget but when you take into account the 60% repair discount, free overnight shipping both ways, six clean and checks and all the goodies that they give you (for sale soon here on Sports Shooter as I've just renewed) it's a good deal when averaged out over a year. |

->> Jim, I have a platinum membership.
It would seem that canon might be increasing prices so we pay the non-platinum price on repairs...
I sent in a lens that needed a new part that cost 80 bucks via canon parts. I was emailed a est. of 125.00 for the repair with the 60% off... I was told the part was 125.00 plus labor.
Then midstate gave me a cost of around 100.00 for the repair. |

| ->> There's one in every crowd and in this crowd its me. Turns out I have the gold membership, although CPS may want to downgrade me to silver just for being too stupid to know what I have. As Emily Litella often said following her SNL rants, "Oh, that's different. Never mind." |

->> It seems as though half of the time when I send something in to CPS for a clean & check they wind up replacing some part (a circuit board here, an IS mechanism there) all at no charge.
YMMV. |

->> Like many many of us here I was a CPS member when it was totally free; wow was that great. Now I am a Gold member and if it takes that extra money to keep it going, so be it. Worth it so many times over and over and over. Canon has been nothing but very very good to me!
By the way, among the cameras I shoot is a late serial number MKIII. I cannot even begin to tell you how many features or just photos I have out there with that body. |
