->> How do you guys label your cases? I just got a Pelican and I'm thinking about somehow getting my name and phone # on it.
Paint? Laser etching? Don't label it? |

->> I purchased a can of yellow spray paint that is supposed to "bond to plastic". It's a name brand but I cannot remember the name. We made stencils but haven't tried it out yet. We plan to number our cases in yellow for easy ID and also do what Mark said and melt real info into the case.

->> That faceplate will cost a lot less than a camera setup in that pelican case.
Its hard to return gear if its not labeled. |

->> Whatever you use....don't put John Doe Photography Ltd
Use your name, and your phone number. Period. Don't advertise that this pelican case has $20k worth of camera equipment.
On my pelican which has shipped all over the world, I use perm labels plus a soldering gun to etch my name, phone number.

->> I cut out my own stencils using an Xacto knife. This allows me to custom fit text onto different parts of the case lid, including that little plate you're supposed to send off for engraving.
I'll print text out on a regular sheet of paper (using Photoshop to add the "bridges" to the centers of letters like O, P, R, etc., then use spray adhesive to attach that paper to some card stock. From there, I cut out the letters with the knife, and use spray paint to label the cases.
It can be time consuming, but I find making stencils to be somewhat relaxing!
I agree in making your labeling vague and discreet. All of my cases are labeled in abbreviations that, away from myself and the people that work with me, appear as gibberish to anyone else.
I also picked up a P-Touch labeler at the beginning of this year and have used it quite a bit. The 1" wide TZ tapes are great for large, easy to read labels. |
