->> Knowing how these forums can go, the better part of me hesitates to even bring up something so elementary here, but I pay my dues and earned my place, so here it goes. I was a CPS member and made my living capturing full time as "pro" photographer for a few years until switching to Nikon mid-2010. I've had my NPS application sitting on my desk ever since, and I'm curious to know what the best ways are to meet a sponsoring member? The circles I run in are still Canon/CPS folks who still love the tragic Canon vs. Nikon banter. Anyway, I miss having access to long glass for big events, and the luxury of knowing if a shutter flies apart at a wedding or baseball game one weekend, I'll have it repaired, or a loaner, for the next.
I'm 26, trying to make my own path until the work runs out and I end up working in a toll booth along the PA turnpike, or pumping gas over in Jersey, 'cuz everyone here knows there are no set career paths in pursuit of this passion. To me, every advantage in trying to make this photography thing stick means something. I'm not asking for a handout, but I am curious to learn what the best ways are to meet NPS members and find a legitimate sponsor. I have relocated twice in the past year, so that hasn't helped my cause, either. But if means more time in the field, stalking people down at Allen's, or secret meetings at the NPS Tomb, I'm game. Any suggestions from the many who have gone before me would be, at the very least, greatly appreciated.
Thanks even just for reading. Most sincerely,
Jordan Bush

->> Do you meet the equipment requirements? I agree that sometimes it's hard to find someone else that uses Nikon, all my friends use Canon.

| ->> Jordan what I did when I was in your shoes was to find out when there was going to be a Nikon event at a major retailer. I showed up with my tearsheets, application, my business license and because it laid to rest the question of equipment, the list of scheduled equipment on my insurance policy. The Nikon rep looked everything over and signed my application on the spot and taught me which 3 bricks to press at Nikon HQ to let me into the secret Black & Gold vault. |

First change your profile photo -- it has WHITE GLASS in it !!
Also, you may want to try emailing NPS and ask if they have any event going on in the area. |

->> Jordan,
When I got mine I got it without a sponsor from another NPS member. I was in contact with them while filling it out. As I told them the major daily in my area switched to cannon a few years ago and with it the staff was now all CPS. I also explained that I was the only shooter at my paper and I met all the other requirements.
So it may be enough if you meet the other requirements and are upfront about not knowing another NPS member. |

| ->> Thanks for the suggestions everyone, I really appreciate it. I might do just that, try contacting NPS directly and get their take, see if they are ok without a sponsor. All of the other qualifications are filled out on the application already. Then I'll ask about that Black & Gold vault... |

->> Perhaps the thumb drive is the key? Why else would they send out a 256meg thumb drive when you can get a 4gb one for $10 at the store.
