->> Curious if anyone is using an android tablet as a way to display pictures to clients, friends etc instead of always needing to carry a laptop. Any positives or negatives to it?

->> My wife just got a Galaxy Tab for use in her job and OF COURSE I have probably played with it more than her. She coordinates conferences for a Berkshire Hathaway company and when off site relies on it heavily.

I can see the benefits of it or an Ipad for display and other business applications. But would never be a replacement for in the field use while shooting. But to showcase work its a great option if you have the cash to blow away clients.

I am holding back on getting one due to the price and the technology. I can easily wait a half year and in that time be able to get three times the tech for half as much.

->> I have a Xoom and the displaying is great for images. It comes with a photo album browser, however it doesn't sort the images alphabetically. Haven't figured out how it sorts yet. The Android OS is Linux based. I downloaded another browser for free which does sort by file name.

But since the Xoom and HP tablets have come out the newest is Toshiba's which is far more versatile. While transfering images to/from the Xoom is done by connecting to a computer/laptop via a mini-USB port, the Toshiba not only has the mini, but also a full-size USB and a full-size SD card slot. So you can have images, movies, etc. on flash drives and memory cards and have that tablet access them directly. And with the SD slot, you can take the card straight from the camera to the tablet for viewing.

Right now my choice is the Toshiba. However, there are sure to be other tablets coming out for the holiday season that will up the features race even more.

->> thanks guys, that's pretty much what I was wanting to know. I've got an ipod touch so I'm familiar with iOS, but I just got an android phone so I'm familiar with that also. Between the two for a tablet, I'm leaning more towards the android, because I've found some stuff I want to do easier than iOS. But looking at the prices I'm thinking I'll wait until the holidays or after.

->> Erik...

The prices will definitely be dropping as we near the holiday season. HP's tablet has been out a month and Costco is selling it right now with a $100 instant rebate. And there are still some manufacturers out there who will announce their tablets in the next month or so too that will have even more features and ease of use.
