Bag for 11" MacBook Air

| ->> Has anyone found the perfect shoulder bag for an 11" MacBook Air yet? Just about to order the laptop and possibly a neoprene sleeve but I'm curious is anyone has just the right bag for this. Otherwise I'll stick it in a Domke J-series satchel in a sleeve. |

->> I've got the Booq Viper case for mine. I'm still trying to figure out how much I like it. It has pluses and minuses.
It is not a shoulder bag, but a zip sleeve that offers more protection than neoprene without being a true hard shell. It has a few inside pockets for accessories, but not the power supply (too thin). If traveling, you could even use one of the full-length pockets for an iPad. Actually, when I went on vacation sans laptop recently, it became my iPad case and held my boarding passes, passport etc.
I use it to put my 11-inch Air in and then slide that into the outside pocket of my ThinkTank roller and head into the stadium.
I carry power supply, CF readers, USB cables and Sprint hotspot in a separate pouch inside the roller so when I get to a baseball game it all heads out to the photo pits with me while the roller stays in the photo room. The case then zips fully open so I can use it as some protection from the concrete or chairs I put my computer on in the pit.
One drawback is that I have a Speck shell on my Air and the cloth interior of the Booq case means the computer does not slide into the full-length pocket as intended because of the extra friction from the shell. But, that doesn't bother me too much as it sits well in the middle and makes it easy to open the case and then pop the computer open using the case as a platform.
I keep thinking of going back to a shoulder bag for the computer and accessories and may do so when football comes around and I have a few extra accessories, but for now I like having only the one bag to roll and nothing on my shoulders when making my way from the parking lot and down to the photo room.
There was a review on one of the computer magazine sites a long time ago listing 10 or 12 cases that were good for the Airs. I'll see if I can dig it up and post it here later -- I think it's bookmarked on another machine. They go from the practical to the ridiculous designer bags, but offers good ideas. |

->> Thanks George
I have contacted Think Tank to see if they have a plan to do an 11" sleeve but no reply yet... think I will use Twitter, their social media guy is rapid! |

| ->> Thanks, I have just been sent this from a Twitter contact too http://www.tombihn.com/page/001/PROD/300/TB0221 and it looks good (if expensive). I think that I will get the InCase sleeve anyway on the same order from Apple Store as the MBA and then think carefully about what I actually need as opposed to what I would like! |

| ->> Any suggestions for a cover-all type sleeve or bag that could be used in rain/sand to protect the computer while it is open in less than ideal situations to transmit? |

| ->> Just to say that I saw the Tom Bihn bag last night (iPad version) and it is really great - if a little expensive. I've been in touch with Think Tank to request an 11" Artficial Intelligence so let's see if they think there would be enough demand for one. |

| ->> What I would be interested in seeing would be a Think Tank modular component to carry an 11" air with a belt system. One of the local shooters here in Seattle carries his around in a Mountainsmith belt case, but it's huge. |

->> If you want to go non-traditional, I know a shooter who used to carry a 12-inch MacBook in a CamelBak backpack. He took the Camelbak bladder out and used it for the laptop. It was a tight fit for that computer but may work well with the new Air models.
It was very low profile on the back and kept the computer out of the way of cameras over the shoulders.
Now that I'm thinking about it, I may have to swing by REI and take a look at the offerings in that kind of setup.
And when covering something like training camp in hot weather, you could put it to the original use and stay well hydrated. |

->> George, my wife and I just went to the local REI with our 18 year-old son who's heading off to college this week, looking for a combo book/laptop backpack for him. While there I saw quite a few smaller backpacks that might make very good bags for carrying a laptop only but I didn't have my MacBook Pro with me so I couldn't do any trial fits.
I was thinking how great it would be to be able to carry my MBP along with me on the sidelines of a football game when the weather was favorable, to avoid having to trek all the way into the media room to edit/transmit at halftime. I might save enough time to make it back to shooting without missing any of the second half, which would be excellent. A backpack would be a workable solution. Of course, this entire scenario is predicated on having a viable wireless solution while on the sidelines, and this might be problematic at most stadiums. |
