Photo Essay Shot Selection

->> Hey everyone. Putting together a photo essay this summer and wanted to get your thoughts on shot selection.

For those of you familiar with these types of project, do you select shots from a check list of sorts (wide angle, mid range, close up, action, etc.), do you let the material dictate selection, or do you do a little bit of both?

I have consciously attempted to take a variety of shots using different lenses, techniques, etc. and have already set some aside for consideration (although I still have more to shoot).

Anyway, any thoughts you might have on the matter would be welcome. Thanks.

->> Whats the story/essay about?
Where are the pictures?

Can't do much without knowing and seeing those two things.

I would look here for more guidance.

So, that's the long way of agreeing with "P-Fal." It would be nice if you could clue us in a bit more as to what the story's focus is; bonus if you can share some images.

And to answer your questions (although it seems redundant with what I just stated):

"do you let the material dictate selection, or do you do a little bit of both?"

Yes, and yes. Like anything in art, it's all relative.

Best of luck,
