| ->> This is why some photo judges baffle me. Out of all of those incredible images, the Photograph of the Year goes to a picture of a little girl (who looks like she just got done picking her nose) sitting next to a doll bearing her likeness in a field of flowers. |

->> No offence to the photographer but can someone please tell me what the judges have seen in that overall winning photo of the little girl and a doll that I'm missing?
Compared to almost all the other winners it's like so what? just dosn't work on any level. |

->> David - what I can tell you is that the jury was made up of six top class news photographers with a couple of hundred years experience between them and a picture editor with well over thirty years in the business. I guess that they saw something arresting, different and unusual.
I have had the advantage of seeing this as a big print and it is both creepy and arresting. I think that the reactions here just go to show that if you get twenty photographers to choose their favourite picture you'd get twenty-two different answers. |

| ->> I've said it once, I'll say it again. If you are so vain you rely on photo contests and their results to define your work you are doomed. Contests mean nothing. The only redeeming value of contests are that they are somewhat like accidents...we look at them...then go on with our business. |
