->> There are reviews on the DSLR video sites, but figured I'd come here, as people have real world PJ experience that others don't.
Anybody using these rigs? What do you think? How have they worked for you in a non-staged photojournalism world? Too heavy/cumbersome?
Here are some examples of what I'm talking about:

and a lower budget version:

Thanks! |

->> Robert, I have some limited experience with the RedRock Micro systems gear. What I can tell you is that shooting video with a follow focus unit on the camera is fairly cumbersome from a PJ/run and gun perspective. It usually requires a set of rails and that adds to the size and weight of a rig.
Coming from a stills background and moving to video, I found the easiest (and most cost effective) thing to do is using a combination of a Nano rig, such as the running man, and the Nano Focus+ Zoom lever. It allows you to pull focus and stabilize the camera.
Its light enough that shooting video with one body and shooting stills with another body is not out of the question.

A short hands on with the Running Man Rig http://tinyurl.com/6arzl8f.
Hope that helps. |
