Who's shooting 405?

->> I understand that a ten-mile section of interstate 405 in LA between Santa Monica and highway 101 is going to be shut down from 9pm Friday to 6am Monday morning for repair. Several Hotels are having "405 parties"... Photographers are going to go down and shoot a phenomenon that rarely happens. The area goes through a lot of elevated geography that offers a view of the road to get a shot... I also heard many major film directors are filming stock footage of it from the air to keep for maybe later. A completely deserted 405 w/ no traffic for 2.5 days; doesn't happen often.

->> I have been thinking of driving up and shooting it... But I imagine I would have to go back and reread Brian Blanco's "Hurricane Coverage" in this month's newsletter to be properly prepared for such an event...

->> This is no joke, if you have been to Los Angeles you will understand. I have an assignment near LAX on Saturday and Sunday, driving up from Orange County 405 is the most direct route usually 45-60min with no traffic, several miles south of the closure. Planning ahead finding alternative routes and allowing for additional travel time so "traffic" doesn't disrupt my shoot. Hoping my clients do the same wherever they travel from too. The news media can put a spin on Carmageddon anyway they like it but life goes on.... people still have to work and need to get around. Its going to be interesting, hoping for the best with multiple plans ready to execute.

->> Should be interesting on Saturday as I am covering WFC Soccer at the Colisieum As all freeways are expected to be impacted by the closure, the infusion of 50-60 thousand people on this weekend in one area won't help.
