->> The photo staff at my newspaper was asked to judge the NPPA Regional Clip contest for Region 5 which we gladly agreed to do. Now I love fan mail as much as anyone but this one was so special I thought I would share it with the class. I have "bleeped" out the expletives, which is most of the email, so you won't be able to get the full effect. Of course, it was sent through my SS member page anonymously with a false email address. Here goes:
Sender: Really?
Phone: --not supplied--
Email: yougottobekidding@really.com

This user's message:

“Almost Caught It”

“Wahlert Girls”

i know you work for a shi**y daily newspaper but pick some good
photos for christ sake.
It goes without saying that this high born person of quality had no idea what was submitted to the contest so I am sure his criticism is right on the mark. |

| ->> Ah contests... You're asked to judge what you get, not what the viewer would like to have win. |

->> Sounds like someone who grew up with that, "I failed because my teacher doesn't like me," or "I don't play well because my coach sucks," or "What do mean I can't have an iPhone, everyone in my preschool has one," or "Of course everyone should get a trophy, even if they just sat on the field looking for 4-leaf clovers," or better yet, "My pictures suck because I never get good assignments," attitude.
It is really sad when people hide behind some anonymous nom de plume to blather such nonsense but I suppose as long as there are contests these cowards will lurk in the shadows. |

->> Wahlert is a Catholic High School in Dubuque, Iowa so Mike's analysis is correct regarding geography.
I'm sorry this happened to you, Gary. If an individual isn't willing to post his name, it certainly says a lot about how much he really believes in his own opinion. |

| ->> Contests are what they are and judges are all different. If another staff judged the same entries they would probably come out with different results. I learned a long time ago not to pin too much of my self worth, meaning none at all, on the outcome of contests. I must confess to being a bit surprised anyone would take the time to look me up and blast away like this. Perhaps they have not learned that lesson yet. |
