I hope this guy doesn't think that publishing 1 million images on Flickr means jack squat. Seriously people are strange.

I'm with Erik... I wish I could now un-learn who Thomas Hawk is.

That is a great article, thanks for posting it Jim. I kind of wish the author had included a link to this 2007 article about Jay Maisel in Digital Photo Pro magazine... it is probably the best I have ever read about Maisel and his work:
http://www.digitalphotopro.com/profiles/jay-maisel-going-with-the-flow.html

I had no idea there were so many photographers who were so clueless about Maisel's career.

->> I heard Maisel speak 22 years ago at a workshop when I was a teenager. Impressive speaker, seemed like a pretty nice guy. Unless all that money ruined him which I kinda doubt, and I remember that DPP article Curtis, then I think what we have here is a case of someone acting like a tool without the guts to admit his mistake.

... not to mention that the "unknowing" trashed one of Henri Cartier-Bresson's iconic images ...

Erik, I too was fortunate to hear Maisel speak on two occasions ... actually had a lengthy chat with him over coffee following one event ... I agree with you that Hawk, Baio and Honan really pegged this fellow wrong revealing their true colors ... and if Baio had the decency and character to have formally requested the use of the image for the project in question, I'm inclined to think Jay would have been receptive to the idea ...
