->> Going through some older backup drives and loading directories onto a new bigger drive. I noticed that there are a few folders that are empty (on the new drive) ... like nothing copied over but, the files are still on the original drive.
What software do other photogs use to compare directories ?
Would be for my MBP and my iMac ... both Intels
Thanks in advance. |

->> Diff works well for this. Open a terminal and run:
diff -rq dir1 dir2
Replace dir1 and dir2 with the two directories you'd like to compare. The -r flag tells diff to search recursively in a all subdirectories and the -q runs diff in 'brief' mode which simples the output so you only see WHICH files differ, rather than HOW they differ. Remove the -q to see how each file differs. |

| ->> All recent versions of the CD/DVD burning software Toast have a "Compare" function under the Utilities menu. This is what I normally use to compare two folders. |
