Recording a cell phone interview

->> I have an interview coming up that I can only conduct by telephone, and I would like to record the conversation for later transcription.
I found this device on Radio Shack's website:
http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2141764
but it gets pretty mixed reviews. It looks like the small microphone on the earbud captures both sides of the conversation from the earpiece of your cell phone as you hold it to your ear during a call.
Ideally I think I'd like to get an interface that goes between my cell phone and a wired headset, and which would have a 1/8" mini plug that would go into my recorder. Does such a device exist, or does anyone have a better idea?
If not I will probably resort to putting the guy on speakerphone at home and setting my recorder next to the speaker, or getting one of the old tried-and-true suction cup deals to plug into the recorder. |

->> If can use a land line, search for in-line recorder.
Most of these plug into the handset cable and have a jack to the recorder.
If not, you are mainly looking at one of the microphone devices.
But searching recording phone call and your type of phone may turn up other options.
There is an App for recording iPhone calls, according to various web reviews. |

->> at USA TODAY we've been using: Skype + the Call Recorder plugin.
Just call them via Skype and record it with Call Recorder ( ecamm.com)
or this free app.

->> For telephone interviews, I picked up a three-way 1/8" junction box / booster at Radio Shack. I plug that into the headphone jack of my iPhone, then plug both my recorder and headphones into the junction box. I use Bose noise canceling headphones and have the phone set to speakerphone but I'm sure the iPhone ear buds with mic would work, too.
Works great. It doesn't show a model number but says, "Radio Shack 3-Channel Headphone Volume Booster" on it.
Just watch the levels on your recorder. |

| ->> Now that I think about it, the earbuds with inline mic probably wouldn't work -- I doubt the mic would pass back through the junction box. Speakerphone setting with headphones has worked well for me, though. |

Great free conference line service, and it has a recording option. |
