->> For those who are interested: Maryam Majd, a photojournalist who was on her way from Tehran to Germany to photograph the Women's World Cup, was apparently arrested as she prepared to travel. As of now, no one seems to know exactly what's happened to her. Seems the government has routinely censored her photos of female athletes and doesn't like her campaigning for women to be allowed to watch soccer.

Is anyone out there knowledgeable about the situation there? To me, it seems pretty straightforward: a woman, by attempting to publicize women's sports and advocating for women's rights, has made waves and aggravated her government, which is intent on withholding certain freedoms from women. If you know about this story: Have I got it right, or is there something I haven't considered? |
