Pay as you go wireless internet, which company do you use?

->> I have an iPhone, which I can use to connect to the internet for most things. However, I can't tether it to my PC without losing my unlimited data plan. For those rare occasions when I need my laptop and internet I want a service that has no contracts and where I can pay as you go. I was looking at the Virgin Mobile MiFi $149 and $10 for 10 days of use. This sounds like a good service for what I need. How is the service? Are there others that are better, cheaper?

thanks,

A-

->> Virgin Mobile is great, I've had both their USB stick modem and the MiFi. Service has been really good when I travel.

Recently I found T-Moble's pay as you go 4G modem. The no-commitment plans are about on par with the VM plans.

I've been using the T-Mobile hotspot for the last few months and it's been great, only downside is the battery doesn't seem to last as long as the one in my MiFi.

100MB for 7days @ $10
1GB for a month @ $30
3GB for a month @ $50

->> I have an Epic smartphone via Sprint that does both 3G and 4G speeds. It also acts as a hotspot WiFi for my laptop and tablet at those speeds. Cost is $1 a day for however many days I need it. For example if during a month I need it for 3 days one week and 4 another, the monthly charge is $7 and the data usage is unlimited. It works great and is very economical as I only pay for the days I need it with no surcharges for going over any caps.

->> Yes, plus a data plan for the phone which is $10 per month. So you would have to give up the iPhone or use the Sprint as a second line.
