->> Any of you folks know the best place in Los Angeles or any other place to get a 18" HDMI to HDMI mini that connects from my 5D into the monitor. I need one ASAP for Tuesday morning. Here in LA Best Buy only have 6 ft long.
I also found a place in NC but it will cost $50 to ship it by MOnday.
TIA

| ->> Monoprice.com is the best place with really good cables. Their overnight shipping in California has always worked for me and is very reasonable for under $5. |

->> Why not just buy the 6-footer from Best Buy? You can always roll it down to 18 inches. And it will be cheaper than also paying for shipping or driving to Rancho Cucamonga.
Think of it this way, if you believe you need a 1-gig CF card, get a 2 or 4; if you think you need a 250-meg external hard drive, get a 500-meg or larger size; if you buy a 6-foot CAT5 cable for use at an arena, at the next venue you're short because now you need a 10 footer. No matter what you think you need at the moment your needs will dictate having to have more a week after your purchase. That's the way life screws with you. |

->> Manuello,
A friendly PSA:
NOOOOO! DO NOT BUY AN HDMI TO miniHDMI CABLE!!!
Especially with a long cord like an 18 footer, you'll snap the end of that sucker off in your 5D in about 30 seconds and will look for the nearest table to slam your forehead down on.
Just buy a regular HDMI to HDMI cable (you might already have this), then buy a little, cheap adapter plug. Something like this: http://tinyurl.com/5zpeej
Vincent LaForet tipped me off on this, and he buys them buy the dozens.
You can buy at Fry's or any good electronics store. Be sure to pick up at least five, and thank me later. |

->> Folks thanks so much for ALL YOUR KIND INFO.
Dough that is how I usually shop even for clothes. IF I see a pair of pants or a shirt that I like I buy 4 or 5. So if any of your see me on Friay, Sat and Sun that means I am wearing a different shirt or pants. Unless I am in the desert then is the same sweaty dirty smelly shirt.
RObert, DUDE, you had been reading my brain. That is exactly what happened yesterday. While working with this Olympic girl and less than 10 mins into the video the darn thing broke off. How crazy is that? I will follow your advice. MY cord was only 18" and luckly I didnt had to slam my head on a table since my two crew members were able to stop me.
Yall THANKS SO MUCH.
BTW I found one at Frys to get me bye until I order a few more.
Also for those who wrote me private msgs and willing to lent me their cords thanks so much too.

->> Jim,
Sorry, Fry's is kind of a Costco of electronics stuff. Like a Best Buy on a Quad shot Americano. They're not in every market, but California is full of 'em.
Manuello, good luck with the shoot! For the future, there are a couple of rigs you can get to send a signal to a small monitor nearby, and also small hotshoe mounted monitors, but the HDMI cables (with adapters of course) are fine if you're on sticks and not doing too much panning/tilting.
Glad your forehead is in one piece. ;) |
