->> I have finally moved from the Dark Side. Bought my first Mac, moved into the light and immediately hit a brick wall, as I knew I would. Someone here will know this. I cannot find it through Google or on the Apple website.
How to I get an external HD (internal HD in an enclosure) I was using on a PC to recognize on a MacBook Pro? The Apple info says it will read FAT32 and NTFS, but so far I can't get it to recocgize on my Mac. |

->> An update: I tried all the programs people suggested here, but none worked, for whatever reason. MacFuse was recommended by more than one person, but it wasn't until I installed Tuxera NTFS that it all came together. Works like a charm, I read and write to NTFS HDs just like I was in WINDOWS 7. FYI.
http://www.tuxera.com/products/tuxera-ntfs-for-mac/ It's $35. |

->> Phil:
Make an appointment at the Genius Bar at your local Apple store. That might be the easiest solution to your problem. Ar Pee |

->> Hi Rich, thanks for the post. I spent an hour in the Apple Store confabbing with the most excellent people there; but they were clueless. What was explained to me was that 99% of their customers simply move data from one internal PC HD to a new Mac HD. The issue of many HDs swapped in and out was foreign to them.
It has to be said here that never have I experienced customer service as good as it is in an Apple store. Any time you go in it's crammed to the rafters with people and yet, within seconds of walking in, a smiling, helpful guy did all he could to help solve the problem. We opened both my new Mac and old Dell PC to try a network hookup (no success), consulted the Guru, etc. Hats off to the Fresno Apple Store personnel! An "A" for effort! |

| ->> You get good customer service when you pay 3x the money for the same hardware! ;-) |

| ->> It is more expensive, but I'm not sure 3x... which I know you being sarcastic... So far I'm loving the Mac. Fast, increasingly simple, GREAT screen... The Mac Photoshop workspace takes some getting used to, but I'm getting there. |

| ->> What interface does the HD enclosure use (i.e. USB2, FireWire, etc.)? |

->> I had this problem. My friend, a Windows user, wanted a big video file I had (no not a pirated movie, a video I shot) so he brought out his Windows formatted external drive that only had a USB2 cable/port and no firewire.
I connected it to my MacBook Pro, running Snow Leopard, and could not get it to mount. I think I even went into Disk Utility to try and mount it but it wouldn't work.
So I launched VMWare Fusion to run Windows XP on my Mac and the drive popped-up no problem in Windows. I then copied my file from my Shared folder onto his external USB2 drive and the deed was done.
We were both on assignment so I didn't have time to really troubleshoot and I gave him the file he needed so all I can tell you is sometimes it doesn't work. Post a message in the Apple Community Forum on their website. There are more geniuses in there than in an Apple Store. |

->> Ok, Phil, next questions...
What brand and model is the enclosure? Did you buy the drive and enclosure separately and assemble yourself or is it a pre-made unit like a Seagate Goflex or a WD Elements or My Passport or something? If it's pre-made, does it mention Mac compatibility?
This is leading to the real question, which is did you have to install any software to use the drive on your PC and/or is it a "one-touch backup" solution? |

| ->> Yes, I installed Tuxera NTFS and it works great! The enclosure was a brand I do not remember; the disc is not with me at the moment... but it all works now... |
