Aperture Installation

->> I recently had the logic board on my Mac Book Pro replaced and lost all of my software and information on my hard drive. Be that as it may, in my attempts to reinstall Aperture 2, I realized that I misplaced the original disk and only have the Aperture 2 upgrade CD. Does anyone know if there is a way for me to download Aperture and then upgrade to Aperture 2 via the upgrade disk? And of course I have serial numbers for both products. If anyone can point me in the right direction I'd greatly appreciate it!

->> Give Apple a call; should be easy since you have the serial # plus they consider it a "Pro" product so the service is a bit better.
I keep a binder with all of my install CD/DVD's...I have Photoshop 5 install disk and serial #s...just in case :) |

->> Thanks Delane. I'll have to adopt that practice moving forward. This is definitely a lesson learned. Have a good one!

->> Dirk - If you do have to buy or upgrade Aperture, which is on version 3.1, buy your copy from the Mac App store, which sells for $80 instead of the $199 off the shelf and less expensive than the upgrade. No install disks required.

->> Thanks Peter. I'll have to consider that as an option as well. I had no idea that was an option.

->> Dirk: My advice is to spend the $80 and get 3.1. There are massive advantages over Version 2, including the ability to brush adjustments non-destructively.

->> Stephen, I think I will look into upgrading soon. Perhaps within the next month or so. I've heard some good things about 3.1. In your opinion, what upgrade have you found to be the most beneficial?

->> Dirk, I've found it easier to buy online and download the copy. Once you create an account, you can always go back and re-download if you loose your original copy via laptop/desktop up grade or service repair like what happened to you. I upgraded my MacBook Pro a couple months ago and I was able to transfer everything by just a simple login and download. Even my Photoshop plugins transferred and some where purchased over four years ago. Hope this helps..

->> Dirk - I cannot answer your question, since I started using Aperture with version 3.1. Tom Boyd could better answer that question as he is on the Aperture Advisory board.

->> Most beneficial: Localized adjustments with brushes. Import speed. Performance improvement. Improved adjustment options. For $80 it's hardly worth the time to discuss it. It's a vast improvement.
