->> I am looking for a CHEAP external monitor to connect to a 5D Mark II. Google searching the topic found me this:

Anyone used it? Anyone have any other suggestions? It doesn't need to be pretty or hi-def, I won't be checking focus or showing an art director, I'm just looking for the most economical way possible to see what the camera is seeing when I'm not able to physically get my noggin behind the viewfinder.
Thanks. |

->> The monitor you linked probably needs an external 12v power source, which you could probably rig up.
I have used this pocket monitor with great success on my elevated photography system over the years:

It's black and white but you can get a color version for about $100 more. It uses AAA batteries that last forever as long as you don't use the monitor for more than a few seconds or minutes at a time (it has a momentary on switch, it doesn't have an "always on" switch).
Also, with the eye cup it's very easy to see in bright sunlight. For a simple framing tool it's hard to beat. |

| ->> Not sure how cheap you're talking about, but take a look at the Lilliput monitors on ebay. They're about $200. I bought the 668 model a few months ago and it's been working fine so far. The monitor has an internal battery, but I also bought an external battery that I can just velcro onto the back. |

->> Hey Matt,
Marshall, Ikan and Lilliput are tops for external monitors.
I know you say it's not to check focus, etc but they are so valuable for that as well as "seeing what the camera is seeing when I'm not able to physically get my noggin behind the viewfinder."
You really, really want to go for a HDMI LCD monitor. I tried going cheap as well with a 10 inch one I got on Amazon but sent it back because the quality of the image, the contrast and lighting was so bad.
This Ikad 7 inch HMDI LCD monitor has been getting some great reviews and I'm going to be getting this one in a couple of weeks. Here is the link to it AND it's only $300

Links to others but these are $700 to $1,500 way out of my price range too :-)

->> some more info on that monitor
"The VL7 has brightness, contrast, saturation, sharpness, and a Peaking filter (helps you see what’s in focus) to make sure what you’re seeing is what the camera is capturing. It can switch between 16:9 and 4:3 display. Not just for monitoring video, the VL7 also has a headphone jack to monitor Audio (no built in speakers with LCD). The ikan VL7 comes with a battery pack ready to use on camera."
A video reviewing that Ikan
