->> Hey Everyone,
I am studying abroad in Italy for four weeks and then making my way for two weeks through Switzerland, Germany, France and London. I have a general itinerary set moving may way from Milan to Interlaken to Munich on to Paris and London. I have looked at the other european posts so I was just checking to see if any had any "must sees" along this route or if any one else would be around these areas during the weeks of July 7-21st and wanted to meet up or knew of good places to spend the night along the way.
Thanks
Robert |

| ->> Thanks I am definitely planning on headed up to the Schilthorn. It is only a 20 minute cable ride from the town I am staying in. I will look into these other sites as well. Thanks for the tips. |

->> If you have any kind of press credential, bring it. In France it will get you into any museum that accepts state funding (i.e. all of them) and you don't have to stand in line. Go to the Lourve or, even better, the Musée d'Orsay, bypass the one or more hour wait in line and enjoy! I also hear from French news people that it works in Italy as well.
Also in Paris walk to the top of the Arc de Triomphe for the best unobstructed views of the city. |

->> Before I tell you all the interesting things on my continent, what are your interests :D
For sports, soccer is the most popular sport in Europe, and Holland is no exception. 1 of every 17 people in the country plays soccer. Only thing is that the competition has it's summer break in the period that you are visiting. Same goes fot other European countrys.
So no interesting games to visit |

->> If you have the funds after a tip up to the base of the Shilthorn circle back around to Grindelwald and take the train up to Kleine Scheidegg and on up to the Jungfraujoch.
I have a home in Grindelwald, it's my favorite place on this planet! |

| ->> I would love to go to a game. This is my first time in europe so I am trying to hit up as much "highlights" as possible. I am mainly interested in cultural/different experiences and capturing photos that aren't of the same standard places everyone else in the world has gone. @Randy how much does that cost? I have a eurail gobal pass and will be staying in gimmelwald. |

NO! STOP! Don't try to hit as many highlights as possible. Choose a few wonderful places and spend some time at each. Savor the experiences. Go back later to fill in the blanks. It's much better to see a few places well than many places badly. |

| ->> Wow I don't find myself agreeing with Colburn too often... but this time I have to agree with him that you are better off slowing down and spending an extra day or two in one spot and take in the locale rather that to haul ass everywhere to see it all and never know what XXXXXXXX smells like in the evening as the sun sets. |

->> Jim,
I disagree because I had a chance to see the Berlin wall, before it fell, but thought I'd get to it, later, in the future.. oops. But, yeah if you really like a place, stay longer.
Vacations should be peaceful, not harried. You will never see enough.. |

->> Haha thanks for all the input. I agree with you guys, it just came across incorrectly. I have listened to a lot of people and have created an itinerary that gives me multiple days at each location. I definitely do not want to marathon my way through europe. What I meant is that I wanted to hit the highlights in the areas that I am going to be staying in which was mainly northern italy, the interlaken area of switz. munich area of germany, paris and london. I want to get a full experience of each of these areas and just as you guys suggested, worry about filling in the blanks on my next trips.
Thanks everyone for the advice and if you have any more suggestions of things I should do in these areas/general european travel trips I would greatly appreciate it. |

| ->> If you are going to be in northern Italy for any amount of time, do try to get to Cinque Terre for a day or two. The trail between all the cities is amazing and the architecture of the cities perched on rocks overlooking the sea is truly unique. I spent four months in Greece studying abroad and then two weeks in Italy and the two days I spent in Cinque Terre were as amazing as anything I saw on my time abroad. |

->> Colburn is totally right. With only 2 weeks to travel and 4 countries to see is way too much. That is the main problem with folks from the USA, "lets see the whole Euro continent in two weeks." Try to stick to a couple places or slow down the way they do while eating in the Mediterranean. SO think of a 4 or 5 course meals instead of fast food joints. Take your time and taste it slowly. After that take another trip and visit other nations.
I tell all travelers from the USA, if you want to understand how we all came to the USA then make it to Spain, France and the UK first.
And as Mike Brice said, try to go to the San Fermin Fiesta in Spain, here known as the Running of the Bulls which goes back to the middle ages. Fermin was a Roman priest back when Spain was part of the Roman Empire around the 3rd Century or so. Great for photos and also for running if you got the Hemingway fever.
But if you run leave your camera behind. My first running of the bulls in the late 80s I had a camera with me and couldnt shoot one frame as those bulls came behind my ass very fast and passed me like a flash while missing me by an inch. Watch for those sharp horns.
While in Italia make it to Sicilia. Lots of traveling people dont travel there but is as good as it gets. I spent part of my life there. ANd yes dont leave home without your press badge. But if you use it while getting inside a place for free then once in there take it off. YOU don't want to let the rest know that you are carrying expensive gears. Gypsies or Eastern Block people always lurking for tourists.
Bon voyage and safe traveling!
More 2 come
