->> At least, not today.
Just thought I'd share a a bit of good news related to law enforcement and photography (since so much of it seems to be bad, these days...).
This afternoon, I got sent out to a wreck. Some guy was looking down at some papers, and drove his SUV right through a utility pole. I was there, and a TV camera guy was there, and we're basically covering the scene. The Fire Dept. guys tell us what happened, and pointed out the driver, who was unhurt.
A few minutes later, the cop working the scene comes over and tells us while we were shooting, from a public sidewalk, the driver had been on the phone with his lawyer, trying to find out if he could force the cop to make us leave, without taking his picture.
The cop basically chuckled and told him the law pertaining to situations like this one. Felt good to have a cop who actually knows the law, and not only didn't harass us for being there, actually stood up for us.
Of course, tomorrow is another day... |

| ->> Couple years ago I saw a jail corrections officer stop at a wreck scene I was covering and make sure everyone was okay, even though he had absolutely no obligation to do so. Police hadn't arrived at the scene yet. I was impressed and knowing the sheriff's department administrators (some of them since they were rookies themselves) I called and mentioned the actions by this man. He received a written commendation in his personnel folder from the jail superintendent for going "above and beyond". Can't hurt to pass on the positives! |
