->> Technically it would be difficult to implement. Multimedia requires players, flash files, etc. all of which need to be hosted on the same domain to avoid cross-site security issues. So they'd have to essentially give you an ftp site into sportsshooter.com, which would be expensive and a nightmare to implement.
You can upload video as well as stills directly to the site already, and you can always put links on your profile page to your spiffy multimedia content. Your own site gives you much better control over presentation anyway... |

->> David makes a good point about putting links on your profile page directing people to your own site where your video player and presentation will be bigger and better.
If you do want to a video on your member page in those thumbnail slots you have to compress it to death so that it is under 25 mb and then when people play the video it looks very small like this

->> Zach, just be sure you're not using AOL's browser to upload your videos.
Sportsshooter recommends you use Netscape instead.
And just to be safe and avoid dial-up hangups, you should natively boot your Mac into OS9 for uploading via Netscape, as a lot of applications aren't yet really stable when running the Classic emulator on this new OSX platform.

Hope this helps! |

->> Thanks, all... my point in making a public thread was to try and generate some inertia behind the request. Obviously that was lost on the general audience.
Jack, the sentiment behind your post speaks directly to my feelings about the site on the whole these days... so thanks for that. |

However, I'd hate to see SS.com become irrelevant as photographers move to other, more advanced message boards. |

->> Just wondering how many people who marked my above comment as "funny" realize I was actually citing the language that up until a few minutes ago, greeted you and instructed you for tips on how to update your member page...and is still, at 2:16PM today, visible here in #8 for FAQs ;)

And I quote:
"8. I am an AOL user. Is there anything I should know?
Yes. Don’t use the AOL browser to perform updates to your member page. Use a stand-alone web browser (like Microsoft Internet Explorer, or Netscape Navigator) to perform your updates. You can still remain connected to the internet via AOL, just don’t use the browser that AOL has built into their system."
End of quote.
Don't get me wrong, there's a lot of charm and quirky character to the way its done around here, in that "we decorated once when we first opened this place back in 1963" ambience of the local watering hole, that despite the ancient surly bartender and deep burnish of nicotine-stained timber around the dimly lit bar, still makes a much better prime rib and baked potato with a solid house chianti at a cheaper price than the chi-chi bistro with the young square-eyed mustachioed barkeep who thinks he is much, much cooler than you for reasons revolving primarily around foppish facial hair, and even if his signature cocktail involves, for reasons that are beyond my comprehension, cucumbers, beets, or rose petals. |

While I don't necessarily have a problem with the current look, capabilities of the SS site ... there are boards out there offering more capabilities, a more current look and feel ... with easily configurable multi-media capabilities ... and many have no fee at all ...
Though it is comforting to know that there is still compatibility to upload via Netscape on OS 9 ... if I ever have the need ... to downgrade 6 generations of Mac OS to do that .... |

| ->> Paul - I've been using Invision since they started. I even used their founder's previous product before he got Invision off the ground. Invision Board is a great forum solution. This discussion *does* make me wonder what the problem is with switching to a more full-featured forum. Cost? Trouble? |
