->> Seems that so many of you have migrated to Macs, that now the malware hackers are targeting them as well. Time to buy some anti-virus software for your Mac!

->> Practice Safe Computing:
1) Keep your browser settings on "paranoid" and check often for security updates for your browser and your operating system.
2) If something asks your permission to install itself on your Mac, Just Say No.
3) Don't open email attachments if you're not sure where they are coming from. |

->> While EVERYONE should be vigilant in protecting their systems from malware ... no system is impervious to vulnerabilities ... there is a difference between a "threat" and actual incidents of attacks ...
So far Apple iOs and OS X has done a pretty good job of avoiding issues ... though that doesn't mean we shouldn't keep up with news on the matter ...
Unfortunately, quite often, those bloggers and tech news folks who report on these potential problems and don't use Apple products, seem to equate potential problems as a wave of actual attacks which, this far has never been the case ... Often we have to be judicious in digging for the actual facts ...

| ->> I'm one who believes you always need a Plan B. If you knew a herd of stampeding buffaloes was headed your way, would you not do what you had to do to avoid the problem before it runs you over? I'm thinking yes... The immediate threat may not be here today, but as Macs increase in market share, it only follows that Mac OS threats will increase. Taking steps to protect yourself now is common sense. |

->> I agree with you Phil ... I was merely pointing out that while we should be concerned and vigilant ... the sky is not falling either ... as some would have us believe.
To this point, much of the malware that Macs could be vulnerable to, need assistance of the user to be ingested to the system ... as noted in the article I linked ... unchecking the "Open safe files after download" in Safari preferences will eliminate that end ...
A free option that offers reasonable protection for Mac OS is ClamXav ... though I don't think it could stop an attack introduced via a web browser or a Flash Player based attack ... those preventative measures would have to be implemented by the respective developers ...
