iPad vs Xoom for portfolio use

->> I have no intention of creating a Nikon vs Canon hornet's nest, but would appreciate some suggestions for consideration.

I'm a PC person and personally find Macs hard to use so let's get that over with. I started out as a math major in college and learned computer programming on main frames using punch cards. (Yes, I'm that old.)

While I have seen great uses of the iPad and agree it is a terrific unit, there are also Android tablets too. Based on what's available, the Xoom appears to be the best. I was going to wait until the summer when more units will be unveiled, but have found myself in need of a WiFi only tablet next week.

The main purpose of the tablet will be as an electronic portfolio and presentation display to clients. I need to be able to create multiple galleries that can be opened with a tap, viewed, closed and then on to another gallery. Using the tablet as an image processor, camera download, transmitter, etc. is not something I would be using it for.

A pro for the Xoom and con for the iPad is flash support. However, if I can duplicate what Flash can do with an Apple app, that would be a pro. However, if I have to use Mac only software to do it -- like Final Cut Pro -- then that's not an option.

For those who use iPads, what type apps should I consider as a gallery viewer? And for Xoom users, what type apps should I look at for it? As far as their hardware, both are the same screen size, same battery life, etc.

I'll be driving through Oregon early next week so I plan on taking advantage of the state's no sales tax for the purchase.

->> Doug, I would be very careful about spending money on unproven gadgets. Take it from me who fell for the original Verzon Blackberry Storm which they were saying was their version of the iPhone. I was stuck with that GARBAGE for two years. I brought my iPad last year one week after it hit the stores and haven't looked back. The images I have loaded on here are breath taken . I have the WiFi version with my own personal Verizon 4G MiFi. I'm actually using my iPad here in bed to type this message. I consider the iPad the best gadget to hit the streets since the iPhone....

->> Just wanted to add that every client that I hand my iPad to knows how to use it and is more than comfortable doing so. Could the same be said for any other device?

->> +1 for Neil. The iPad is also a bit of a status symbol as well. Haven't handed mine to a client yet where I didn't get a "Ooh! An iPad! What a great idea!" or something like that

->> Indeed the iPad does still have a "WOW" factor for many of my clients ... in fact, I know of several who went out and bought one after using mine in the studio for image presentation ... and you can tell those folks who have a familiarity with iOs devices as they take to the using the iPad like a fish takes to water ...

While the iPad may seem "limited" or "closed" in some eyes, it has become quite popular and for me, extremely useful far beyond it's portfolio presentation aspects ...

When I sit down with a couple to discuss their becoming a wedding client, I can show them my portfolio of images, wedding albums ... a Keynote presentation of my services and packages ... fill out their contract, have them sign the contract, process their deposit payment by swiping their credit card and email copies of all the documents and receipts transacted ... all right from the iPad ...

I never have to excuse myself from the process to use a desktop computer, or hide from them behind a laptop screen to accomplish this process ... everything is face-to-face throughout the process ... so for me, the iPad is a quite useful tool that has more than paid for itself many times over in the past year ...

Shall I go on about how I use the iPad to process, caption, keyword and FTP a few images for publication on deadline? ;-)

It's a marvelous tool to say the least ...
