->> The two-day Lighting Luau was a huge success. This was the most fun I have had at a workshop in a long, long time!
These images are a tribute to not only the participants but also to the faculty and staff and the companies that supported the workshop.
Thanks to:
Nikon, USA (Bill Pekala, Sara Moosburger and Ronal Taniwaki)
Orbis (James Madelin
Honl Photo (David Honl)
Dynalight (Jim Morton)
Think Tank Photo (Brian Erwin and Doug Murdoch)
Without the help of these companies and individuals, the Lighting Luau would not have been possible.

->> Some solid work from all - most impressive!
In other news: what are the odds on having an SSA event over in the UK or Europe? I'm sure there are a ton of SS members whom would love to get this sort of hands-on experience, but the cost aspect of hopping across the pond is a major stumbling block. |

->> Yes, we always have people asking me: "This sounds like a great workshop...can you hold it ****** (fill-in-the-city-here)?"
The cost of putting on this workshop aside, what makes it THE best sports photography workshop is the access we have to the sports events (and for the Lighting Luau the subjects for the portraits).
So Cal is our home base, we know it well and we have the contacts to get a wide range of things to shoot.
I'd love to put on a "bus tour" sort of thing, taking the SSA on the road. But SHOOTING is one of the key components in making this a worthwhile experience. And we can do that best in So Cal.
(We have workshop participants from all over attend and through the years a few have "jumped the pond" to be a part of The Academy. Check out the video on one student--- Harry Engels --- who just decided to "do it":
