Senior High School Portraits price help...

->> Around this time of the year, I get asked a lot to shoot senior portraits. I have hesitated to get in to this market because I get busy with other work and frankly I have no idea what to charge. However, today I had a conversation with a mom that told me that she had a local lab photograph one of her daughters her senior year a few years back and she said she spent close to $3000. Needless to say, this can be a very creative and lucrative. For those of you who do this type of work, How do you charge? What do you charge for? How many prints? DVDs? etc.? How do you structure your pricing, etc.? Hair and Make-up? Outdoor vs. Indoor?

I'd really like to get ideas. Your help is much appreciated.

Armando

->> The senior portrait field can be as varied in pricing as can the the style, assortment of poses, locations, lighting and wardrobe ...

I price my senior offerings in the same manner as any other portraiture I offer ... sitting fee to cover the time and equipment involved in capturing the images ... and then offer both ala carte print pricing and package print pricing ... as well as custom designed photo books, albums, slideshows, digital files ... on and on ...

I do offer scheduling in hair stylist/makeup artist upon request at the expense of the subject ... and also offer both outdoor and in studio sittings ... and most often, a combination of both ...

As for actual dollar amounts as what to charge ... there is no set in stone amount ... it can vary greatly on what you offer, how your rates compare with competitors in your area for those offering similar quality and most importantly ... the willingness of prospective clients to pay for what you offer ...

->> My advice is to create three packages, economy, middle and very high end. They will choose the middle one.
