->> Pretty cool google app someone created. Searches the web for EXIF data with your serial number. Worked for me I found some images that I took and posted to flickr. If it gets 1 stolen camera back its worth its weight in gold!

->> Just put in my serial number from a body stolen last year in Chicago - nothing. Wonder what sites it searches or just basic - have thousands of images on PhotoShelter and not one of my bodies showed up in the search.

->> Keep in mind, any type of 'save for web' is going to strip out the majority of data that could be searched.

Also, most image hosting sites strip a lot of data for the screen versions.

->> Isn't stripping data out of digital file information a violation of the The Digital Millennium Copyright Act? Or maybe you, as the owner, are allowed to do it to your own work. But why would you want search engines to be looking at blank information.

->> Mike, I believe editing images in Photoshop removes the serial number (and other camera-specifc data), so unless somebody posts a shot directly out of the camera, you're not going to be able to connect it to your stolen body.

->> Looks like a really great tool. Sure it's not 100% perfect but it's better than nothing. Nikon and Canon need to take a page out of Apple's "Find my iPhone" playbook.
