->> Nice job, very weird topic title!
But as I thought about its "weirdness", I remebered that I felt the same as it happened to me, 5 times in one night while covering a sardine fishing boat on the Atlantic ocean. I took an anti-nausea pill right before departure, which did its job for awhile, but it causes somnolence and I fell asleep during the night trip to the place where they found fish. So when I woke up, and although I managed to keep it away from my cameras and don't miss (many) good moments, the pill effect was gone and the waving and weird smell inside the room I was made me feel very "out of order. So I left all my dinner and a lot of other fluids all around the boat as I roamed there shooting when they started to do their thing. Very brave guys, by the way, huge ocean and a very small boat. Thankfully for everybody, the sea washed everything wave after wave. After it was over, and during the trip back to shore, all the fishermen were teasing me, offering me beer and cigarrettes (for breakfast!) as they watched me become green-yellow inside this minuscule kitchen where I had fallen asleep, which now smelled terribly from fish and gasoline. I still had some fluids to let go, which I did, much to their amusement. They told me some of them went through the same on their first week aboard, and that it was alright to be like that. According to them, I would get used to it in a few days and could make a good fisherman. I thanked them and passed on the opportunity, eheh!! As I set my feet on shore, I finished the job shooting the market and some details and went straight to a bar to find something to eat, best cake and orange juice I ever had. I would do it again, although I would try to stay awake! :)
Best regards, Bruno Pires (Portugal). |

| ->> Yep, airsickness. During college, I hired an airplane to take me up to photograph the chicken houses that dot the landscape of western Kentucky. It was hellish and turbulent ride, and I ended up tossing my cookies about midway through the flight. As I felt the rush of nausea coming on, I instinctively stuck my head out of the window. Bad idea. Vomit rushed back into the plane, covering my face, camera, and the insides of the plane, making a huge mess. The pilot was not happy at all, and I ended up cleaning the inside of his plane for him. |

| ->> Thanks everyone! My shoulders and ribs are still sore from wrenching like that. I have never been airsick before. I was a student pilot for a while and I love shooting from planes and helicopters. This one caught me totally off guard. But it really was an amazing assignment. |

| ->> I didn't puke on my cameras, but only because the Air Force handed out some air-sick bags before the C-130 flight we took a couple of weeks ago...and another photographer from the paper was nice enough to capture the whole thing on video and stills! |

->> oh yeah, a bunch. just gotta keep cleaning off the eye piece and keep shooting. I threw up so hard in an f-16 the T-Birds dubbed me "Power Puke." I threw up on the vomit comet in Russia easy over 40-50 times. Got so bad I just unzipped my flight suit and started throwing up inside my shirt, cause, you know you're in a weightless environment and you don't want all that stuff just floating around. what can I say? this can be a sticky business:-)
nice job on the job...good pix..... |

->> A couple years ago I was covering the men's NCAA basketball tourney in Oklahoma. The night before the second round game I was suppose to shoot I came down with the worst food poisoning ever. I was puking so hard I actually cracked a rib.
BUT I made it to the game. Got several texts from an editor and friends wishing me luck not puking on the court during a nationally televised game. I did not puke on the court, but during a time out and halftime I made it to a garbage can right off the court.
As it turns out, it was my strongest sports shoot up to that point in my career. My editors complimented me on the work and suggested that maybe I should get sick before my next big shoot. |
