I did get an email from CPS saying they were going to have loaner gear and clean and checks for the over 800 photographers that are expected to be there. yikes! No thanks. |

Too much Lindsey, Britney, Brad, Angelina, Jennifer, Charles and Kate becomes increasingly stale after awhile. Same thing with politicians. We're about to get bombarded with everything we want to know about The Donald, Palin, Pawlenty, Huckabee and on and on......It's just a sign of a lazy media who won't leave the cubicle to go out and find fresh stories to cover. |

I REALLY don't get the who deal with the Royal Family. I mean...they don't even run the show in England. What makes them any better than anyone else? It's a joke and I wouldn't waste 5 seconds watching it.
I have discussed it with my wife...is the interest just a male/female thing? I don't know any guy that gives a rats behind about this non-event.

I am giving a talk at the World Photography Organisation's annual bash (which is in London for the first time) about the photographic planning and preparation that has been going on for the wedding on Thursday afternoon. Then I get back in my car and head 100 miles away to spend Friday on the beach with all of the other "thanks for the extra holiday" people that live in Dorset. Note to other Brits... "in village hall if wet". |

->> Well for me it means getting a train at 04:22 to catch a connecting train at 04:50 which will get me to Westminster for 05:30 or so. Press pens open at 6am and close at 8am.
Here's what has me stumped, though: NPS have a depot open on the day, but it doesn't open until 9am.
So: I can have my kit cleaned, checked and access some loan gear (if needed) but only AFTER the press pens have been closed off. Go figure. |

->> My own thoughts on the scale of media coverage.
1. The last UK royal wedding of note was in 1986 (Andrew and Sarah) - this is the first ceremony taking place in the digital age of near instantaneous coverage worldwide.
2. With William's choice of bride being an ordinary, everyday girl - not of 'society circles' - the "story" of the wedding appeals to a broader range of people than ever before.
3. The role of the press has always been twofold: to bring public attention to stories that would otherwise go untold, and to comment on events that are already at the forefront of the public consciousness.
As with any event of this scale, it's inevitable that there will be an air of circus and theater to it - one might go so far as to say a good deal is orchestrated and manufactured by the media so as to command the attention of the public.
Still: it's undeniable that - here in London at least - there's quite genuine interest and a party atmosphere. I can only guess that such feeling is echoed in many pockets all over the world. |
