Nikon 24-70 drenched, zoom rubber band came off.

->> So I was out in the rain and my Nikon 24-70 got completely drenched. The rubber band that is used to control the zoom came off completely with a sticky goo on the inside/back. So, I can't fix this myself.... Or can I? Anyone have this happen to them? Any suggestions? It was getting kinda loose and not fitting right over the last few months and now its just off.

->> If the lens "got completely drenched" as you write, I think the rubber grip is the least of your problems.

If any water got into the guts of the lens it could corrode some of the electronics or God-forbid, damage the AF motor.

And if water got into the elements ...well, that's a huge problem.

If the lens got as wet as you say, it would behoves you to get it to a repair center.

->> And, that said, yes, the rubber grips are user replaceable (have done this myself, but it was from hot conditions). The part is cheap, and you just slip it on and it practically seats itself. But you better make sure everything is 100% dry and functional first...
