| ->> Eddie spoke one year back in the 90s at the Hoosier State Press Association's Better Newspaper Contest awards seminar in Indianapolis. At that time, he was very candid about the "Saigon Execution" photo. The image was on an overhead projector and Eddie explained in detail the events leading up to the photo, who was involved and why the man was executed. It was very interesting to hear of this first hand from the photographer who was there. |

->> Jeff I'd be interested in the details Adams' viewpoint. Everything I've read today seems to skirt the details of the event itself, and paint the photographer as the martyr. My understanding was the man shot was VC, and he had just been found at a ditch containing 34 bound bodies, many of which were family members of the general's deputy. That man was getting the bullet, but it was done at that spot and time simply because they had an audience with the camera crews...which resulted in a signature Adams photo, one that was perfectly exposed and framed, and not a reactionary capture.
It obviously back fired, then when the war was over the U.S. left the general to fend for himself, and when he finally got out of country a move to deport him from the U.S. ensued...sort of makes the Boehner funny eyes misrepresentation "controversy" seem petty. |
