Bizzarre problem deleting files

->> Hi again. Apparently it's "Matt Has Issues" day. Rattling CF cards and now this. I don't now if this is a camera thing, a Mac thing, a PC thing, a Photo Mechanic thing or something else entirely, so again my disclaimer for posting here instead of equipment Q&A.
I had someone subcontract an event for me. He gave me a DVD of the raw take--all JPEGs, for what it's worth...And shot on a camera that used to be mine, btw. I copied the DVD onto my Mac (MacBook Pro unibody OS 10.6.5) to edit the take and that's where the problem began: I can't do anything at all to the photos--copy, delete, open, nothing...without typing my password each and every time. I get the message: "Type your password to allow Finder to make changes." As a test I shot some new photos on my own cameras and ingested them the usual way and everything works fine, so I'm *thinking* the problem is not on my machine or my software.
The files on the DVD do not have the little "lock" symbol on them. The DVD was burned on a PC using the built-in Windows disc burning software--could that be causing a problem?
So...anyone know what's up? Anyone have a workaround?
Thanks. Hopefully no more posts today. |

| ->> Sounds like a permissions issue on the files - I would suggest going back to the DVD and ingesting the files directly off that using PhotoMechanic. |

->> Try selecting one of the images and hit Apple I (command I) for Information.
At the bottom of the box look at the sharing and permissions.
My guess is you have read-only permissions. You will need to change to Read & Write for your user.
You may be able to do it at the folder level and apply to all contents but I'm not sure. Patrick's method may be best to try if you can't do a batch change on the permissions. |
