| ->> Does anyone here offer a photo booth type service? Do you print on-site? Do you think it is necessary to print on-site? Thinking about offering the service for proms and homecomings and I thought it might drive additional sales of formal portraits if they were looking at something "new." Your thoughts? |

| ->> Any photo booth I have seen while attending special events were both print on site and order via website. The Prints onsite were more for fun, and the quality of prints offered via website absolutely sucked. |

->> I have seen a photo booth used at a wedding reception where two copies were printed of each strip of 3-4 photos. We got to keep one copy and a young lady working the booth immediately pasted the other copy in an album for the bride and groom. We then get to write a message to the bride and groom next to our photo. Obviously the parents (?) paid for the booth at this reception.
For proms and homecomings you could tie the use of the photo booth (usually goofy pictures) to them buying a package of formal portraits. If they buy a certain quantity of formal portraits, they get a coupon for free shots in the photo booth. Other photos in the photo booth could be charged individually. Print them on-site. |

->> You may want to search the archives, as there have been some DIY photo booth solutions discussed in the past.
I have a friend who DJs for events. He invested about 8 grand in a photo booth set up that uses a monitor and either an advanced P&S (in this case a G10) or DSLR. It prints two copies of the photos while transferring the shots to a TV, where all the images are displayed in slideshow format throughout the night. He charges something like $1200 extra for that at weddings, so it paid for itself pretty quickly.
Regardless of whether you go the pre-fabricated route or do it yourself, I'm sure it would be a worthy investment. |

| ->> we use a 'booth' setup at weddings with an attendant shooter and it is a pretty good hit. Drop me a note and I can share the setup. |

->> I've done a couple at weddings using a basic backdrop and an assistant. Guests take their own photo using a cheap wireless remote and its a basic one light in umbrella set up. Still trying to improve how it looks.

I don't use it as a money making exercise but instead as a marketing method as guest will keep sharing the images around the web which pushes my name out there. All sales are online. |

->> Michael, I just did my first at my daughter's graduation party yesterday. Since I decided to use an Eye-Fi card for tethering, using my 50D was out. I need to buy new batteries for my MK-IIn's, so using one of them was out too. So I had to use one of my MK-IV's which I didn't want to use. I set up Lightroom to transfer the files into black & white automatically before the image displayed on the screen.
The photobooth was a HUGE success and several people inquired about my services for future events. Here's my blog on my experience http://msuttonphoto.net/2011/06/the-photobooth/ |

| ->> I forgot to mention I used an old backdrop, 2 Einstein 640's bare bulb because I forgot the soft boxes in the garage, pocket wizards, laptop and a camera. I didn't want to print on site. Hope this helps. |
