->> They are using 5d MkII for inserts and as "b" or "c"cameras. Just finished a pilot in Vancouver for NBC and we used a MkII for some special effects shots, some inserts and as a 4th camera on stunts. Takes abit (maybe alot) more work post color timing etc trying to color match when you are also shooting Red or Alexa.

Is there a reason why they would be using a DSLR instead of a real camera? Cost?

5d's seem to be the video flavor du jour for a lot of people these days especially in the tv commercials world. A number of ss members (
http://blog.vincentlaforet.com/mygear/)are using it.

It is cheaper than an Alexa or Red, has a different look and depth of field that some like. Because of the size it's easier to use in really cramped locations. There are debates about color issues - especially the blacks and shutter drag causing pulsing.

Its a great system to put in dangerous places for stunts etc - it's much cheaper to replace than any other system.
