| ->> I think that the words, "Final Cut Pro X will be available this June from the Mac App Store for $299" are the most interesting considering that Final Cut Pro, up until now, has cost around $1000... |

->> x2 on what Jim says. "Newer! Better! Faster! Shinier! 70% cheaper than the old version!
There's gotta be a catch. |

->> The "catch" is that this is JUST Final Cut Pro and not Final Cut Studio. $299 does not include Motion, DVD Studio Pro, Soundtrack Pro, etc. I do not know what the plan is in terms of those apps, but I can say that there are new features in FCP X that alleviate SOME of the need for these. I was in the audience and saw first hand what the new version will do and it is pretty awesome. Once you get past the iMovie look and feel and really see what it is capable of, you won't be disappointed. It really takes the time spent on media management, conflicting tracks on the timeline and other time consuming things out of the equation so that you can focus on story telling and editing.
Also, there are clearly elements from the photography world that are now in FCP. Keywording, for example can be applied not only to clips, but also to sections of clips. Very cool. You also will have the option to select specific portions of a frame that you might want to adjust exposure on, kind of like a dodge and burn.
All in all, it will be a game changer on many levels. |

->> I watch a couple of interesting videos about FCP X here
http://www.tuaw.com/2011/04/13/unofficial-videos-of-final-cut-pro-x-arrive-...
The 2nd video has a guy talking and showing different things about the new FCP X. One of many cool things is this "magnetic timeline" feature. Go to the 3:30 mark on the 2nd video to see what I'm talking about, amazing stuff.
Here is the text from the website of the link above...
A couple of videos from the announcement of Final Cut Pro X last night have leaked out online, and you can watch them on the next page for as long as they stick around, though I'm not sure who would have the claim on these. As you would expect, the announcement shows off all the new features of the software, including the spiffy Content Analysis features, the audio track analysis, and just how fast and smooth this thing is. It really is very impressive.
Part one is mostly a presentation, while part two gets more into a demo of the (very iMovie-like, actually) software. If you've been intrigued by what you've heard of Final Cut Pro X so far, these two videos are definitely a must-watch.

Yup, but for the last few years you have not been able to buy FCP on it's own without buying the whole "Studio" package. |

| ->> Don't forget that Apple also reduced the price of Aperture 3 considerably as well ... Could be an effort to drive hardware sales via software potential ... Something they may have learned from the iOS app store ... With so many versatile apps for as little as 99 cents ... Or even free ... Makes dropping a few bucks for an iPhone/iPad that much easier ... Could work for despots and laptops as well ... |

| ->> It's been a while since soundtrack pro was available as a stand alone app. With the separation of the elements of studio perhaps we'll see all of them available separately but discounted as a group. I'd be happy with that since fop and soundtrack are the two elements that I'm most interested in. |
