->> I guess the liberal social conscious paper is a front for left minded thinking capitalist after all. Arianna should donate the funds she earned to the social entitlements she feels are mandatory for many Americans.

->> It was only a matter of time until those who made it possible ... wanted a slice of Ariana's $315M pie ... you reap such rewards and then not expect those who got you there not to want a fair share of the profits earned ...

I think the most telling tale was after the announcement of the sale ... when Ms. Huffington stated that "nothing will change except that your work will be read by more people" ... yet the most dramatic change was to her bottom line ...

->> So this cat works from Dec 2005 thur Feb 2011 contributing 216 articles and was not paid huh? Well he was promised it would give him exposure. Why does this sound so damn familiar LOL?
I don't know about you but from Dec 2005 to maybe March of 2006 is about all the unpaid exposure I could have stood for.
Work for free is alive and well in other industries besides photography, or so it seems.

->> Don't forget that Ms. Huffington was a conservative WAY before she became a liberal. She was a writer for the National Review and supported Newt and his boys for a long time.

She's somehow managed to help create a very popular web site that does little more than 1) crib news from other web sites and 2) give anyone that wants one a platform for their opinion. Heck, even the name's not very original.

->> Benjamin makes a great point - for someone who claims to be on the side of the working man and fights for the little guy, Arianna sure could scrape together a few green rectangles for her writers now that she is $315 million richer, instead of insulting them yet again by now publicly stating that nobody would even notice if they stopped contributing to PuffHo.

I guess there’s the theoretician’s approach to spreading the wealth, and then there's real life where we see Arianna's true nature. Just try to hold it together the next time you hear her decrying the growing gap between rich and poor.

->> I was kind of hoping this purchase of Huffington Post would raise the consciousness of people who provide content. Apparently it has. But I am surprised that Jonathan Tasini was not a little more copped on to what is happening after his lawsuit with the New York Times (unless it is a different Jonathan Tasini, I'm not sure).

And please, Benjamin and Jim, don't make this into a political argument. It most certainly is not. Jim, I just looked at the Wikipedia article on Arianna and you could have lifted your opinion from that. What, people can't change their opinions, their point of view?

The bottom line is a byline doesn't pay the rent. And good for you people who can make a lot of money on the backs of people who think that. Maybe this will be the bitch slap you providers need to start charging for your work.

->> Bottom line is these writers were never promised any compensation for the work they contributed or any future compensation for the work and they obviously had no issues with it as they wrote articles for YEARS!!! They are entitled to nothing based on the facts that I have read.
Now if the question is, should they receive some compensation from the sale as ultimately they did contribute content. Then I agree it would be nice if they did receive something. But they are not entitled to anything.
You can't compare this to spec shooting , the writers were never expected to receive anything for the articles regardless if they were used or not.
In most spec shooting agreements, the photographer is to be compensated if the image is used depending on the contract / details of the agreement they signed.

->> IMHO,
These writers were foolish to provide any content for free, and are now being even more foolish trying to obtain compensation which they did not negotiate for in advance.

They may have been screwed, but they were the ones that dropped their pants.
