->> Hi fellow sportshooters,
this is my first post, and its great to be onboard so far looking at your work and the really healthy community we have going on here. Just wondering if anyone is going for the above mentioned workshop coming May 6-11 in Colorado Springs? I have signed up for it and am looking to get to know fellow attendees before the workshop, and arrange for stuff like car-pooling etc.
Btw, I am from Singapore and I am from out-of-town as they come, so any pointers and help would be much appreciated. Thanks much! |

->> Hi Mugilan,
I'm scheduled to teach there, though that may change or get shortened depending on the hockey and basketball playoffs we have going on in Los Angeles. I guarantee that you will get a lot out of it and have a good time. I know I always do. I suggest that you look at the schedule and give a lot of thought to whether going out to shoot or sitting in on classes is most important to you. You will be at high altitude, so make sure you stay hydrated there. If you do a search here for the Clarkson Workshop, you will find a lot more information about it. |

->> Hi Mark,
great to hear from you! Thanks for the pointers and advice, appreciate it. Working at high altitude will be a new experience for me and thanks for pointing that out, will prep for that.
I did do a search on the boards/story index for more info on the workshop prior to posting but more recent info/feedback, like from the 2010 workshop, seems hard to come by though, unfortunately. But I have found heaps of other info which has been very helpful.
Guess I have to strike a fine balance (which would not be an easy task looking at the number of cool stuff to shoot) between shooting and sitting in on classes looking at the schedule and considering I won't be driving-am rather at the behest of other workshop participants who might be driving hence my intention to touch base with other attendees who might be part of sportsshooter.com and strike up some kind of understanding.
Hope your schedule allows you to come down to the workshop. Am really looking forward to seeing and hearing from you at the workshop! |

->> Hey Mugilan, kudos to you for making the trek across the pond to go to the sports workshop.
I'm sure Brett Wilhelm (workshop director) or anyone else on the workshop staff would be happy to help you figure out as much as you can before your trip. They're always super helpful on the phone and can give you a ton of guidance before arriving. If you don't want to rack up a huge bill on an international call, I'm sure they'd chat with you online or through skype. Just drop them a line for their screen names. I know Brett is a member here on sportsshooter, so you can get in touch with him through his member page, or you can find his email on the Clarkson site.
As Mark said, it's a great workshop and you'll learn a ton...just prepare yourself for a week without much sleep and with tons of learning. |

| ->> I have been looking at this workshop for years. Now that I live in the state it takes place I should really go. The only problem is getting the company to pay for it. I am supposed to take at least 2 professional development workshops a year. |

| ->> I went in 2008 and thought it was a very good workshop. I would second what Trevor says and contact Brett Wilhelm for answers to specific questions. Enjoy. This year, I'm looking forward to taking Bert's SportsShooter Academy Lighting Luau next week. Have fun, I know I will. |

->> Great workshop!! I've attended this workshop twice a few years back and the staff is, as has been said, very helpful. It is not only an enlightening workshop, but tons of fun as well.
Carpooling tends to happen during the week whether pre-planned or not. As long as you can get yourself from the airport to the hotel, once you start meeting other participants and striking up conversations you will quickly be able to find people more than willing to carpool to various destinations.
I still keep in touch with several of the photographers and teachers that I met at the workshop. |

| ->> I went last year and it is an excellent workshop. You will really enjoy it for sure. Look at the schedule and decide what you want to shoot or attend during the week, as there are a bunch of choices. They have a certain number of spots available for each event/class, so they have a "drawing" at the start of the seminar to pick all the available spots for each event. They put everyones name in a hat and draw out the names one at a time, and everyone gets to pick a spot on all the available events they want to attend. They continue to do this until every spot on every event is filled. You will get to shoot what you want to shoot, as there are generally enough spots in each event available, plus there are multiple days of the same event available to make sure you can attend the event you want to. I also highly recommend attending the nightly seminars featuring a different instructor each night. The featured instructor gives a presentation of their work and their work history. They are very, very interesting and enjoyable to be able to see what some of these people have accomplished in their careers. You also will get to mingle with all the instructors and staff in the local "watering holes" to just talk and socialize. All the instructors and staff are very friendly and very approachable people. Enjoy. |
