->> I know we have a few veterans and active duty guys on this website. I also know we have lots of shooters whose family members serve in the military, so I am posting this for you guys as well.
First take a look at my wife's blog "A Sister, a Mom, a Family Prepares for Military Life"
http://offthebase.wordpress.com/2011/03/28/a-sister-a-mom-a-family-prepares.../
Please also take a look at what my daughter did for her language arts project. She was to do something on someone that meant a lot to her, so she wrote her first song ever and played in on her guitar that she just got a month ago. We put some photos we had of her and her brother together in SoundSlides. Get a tissue handy

My family is using photography all the time in blogging and school projects. I am so proud of them and thankful those closest to me are using photography in a positive way. |

->> Rick - Thanks.
I know it isn't a typical post here, but I was hoping it struck a cord with some. |

| ->> Wow that's embarrassing! Some of the crap that gets posted on this site and we have a patriotic parent who's kids going off the join the service and a couple A**holes give him a huh and an off topic. Notice I'm not hiding behind my keyboard. Stanley thank your stepson personally from my family and I wish him a safe tour of duty. |

| ->> As a 20 year veteran, who started as a photographer, retrained into a survival training specialist and then retrained again into a wide area networking engineer who's wife still serves and has a son who is also serving too. It's an honor to read something like this Stan. Be PROUD!! People forget they are the reason why we can have an open forum like this in the first place, so the Huh's and Off Topic's can go..... |

->> Stanley -
Your daughter's project is very well done and something I'm sure you and your wife will treasure as much as her brother will.
My son heads to Ft. Jackson, SC for basic May 9.
Thanks for sharing. |

->> Stanley, thank you for sharing this. It's a rare glimpse and puts a personal face on who we are sending into harm's way. Godspeed.
To Nick and Mark: don't forget he signed up to defend the right to tick the "Off Topic" or "Huh" box. Hiding behind anonymous comments is cowardly, but let's not turn this into a political discussion.
Again, than you for sharing this Stanley. |

->> Awesome stuff Stanley. It definitely struck a chord with me. My son arrived in Afghanistan two weeks ago with the 10th Mountain Div. 3rd BCT. He and his platoon are now manning their strongpoint somewhere west of Qandahar. Despite being basically in the middle of nowhere, he was able to call this morning and it sounded like he was next door.
I have a whole new appreciation for those who choose to serve. Hooah! |

->> Stanley,
Thanks for sharing the story about you stepson. As a Navy Vet I can appreciate the sacrifice he’s about to make, by serving on active duty in this country’s military. Tell your stepson thank you! |

->> If all I had in response to this was huh and off topic then I might be disappointed. My son is going to serve to protect the rights of those who choose to click huh and off topic and I am glad they feel free to check those boxes.
If we all lived in Libya then you wouldn't check those boxes because a fear of possible death for speaking your mind.
I am actually proud to be able to share and have people disagree with me, because I could live somewhere else in the world where it wouldn't happen.
Thanks for the positive comments and thanks for the huhs and off topic comments.
I am really pleased that both of the links I sent you to have still photos helping carry the message. I think the photos actually give emotional glimpses into the topic that the words alone could not do. That is one of the other reasons I posted it here was to celebrate the positive use of photos in places other than photography websites. |
