->> Can't afford to upgrade to a new Macbook, so I am thinking of upgrading my older MacBook drive to a SSA (Solid State). Any opinions from you who have been using a SSA drive?
I use my laptop mainly for quick edits and transmitting on deadline at various venues. Software used, Lightroom 3, Photoshop, Photo mechanic and process both raw and jpg.
Thanks! |

->> Do it.
You will not be disappointed.
It'll be like getting a new machine.
The best, but not the cheapest are here:

| ->> I love mine. It really speeds up processing time. I loaded photoshop on one, as well as the files I am working on. Once I am finished working on them I transfer them to my raid drives. I use the OCZ drives. www.ocztechnology.com. Bought them from newegg. |

->> Thanks for the info. At $135, I think I will have to jump on the Kingston drive.
Cheers!

->> I have an Intel X25 SSD and an OWC Mercury Extreme SSD. Both are super fast but the Intel slows down over time. Requires a little work to keep things running smooth. The OWC version is a little more expensive but maintains its speed over time with no extra work or formatting.
DigiLloyd is a great resource for this: http://macperformanceguide.com/Recommended-SSD.html
Once you start using SSD, everything else will seem way too slow. Lightroom is a total dream on SSD. |

->> Steve - What Matt said and ...
Another option might be a Seagate Momentus XT hybrid drive. It is a 500GB hard drive with 4GB of solid state memory built in. I installed one on my MBP and it certainly made things snappier. Others don't see any speed improvement, but I've gotten better performance with Aperture. And the hybrid drive is a fraction of the price.
If you get a smaller SSD you could always put an HDD in your optibay (http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/DDAMBS0GB/) |

->> I just installed a crucial 300 256MB SSD in my 2009 macbook pro. I then purchased a Optibay from MCE technologies, and installed my 500 GIG 7200 rpm drive where the super drive was. MCE also gives you an enclosure for the super drive that you can hook up via USB 2.0.
I have the OS and apps on the SSD and keep my data files on the regular hard drive in the optibay. So far so good with little problems. |

->> I have the X25 SSD and love it. Zero slow down in the few months I have had it so far.
I will probably purchase another one in the near future. |
