Using PW Mini or Flex with Cybersyncs

->> Wasn't sure how to word the title, but I had a curious question pop into my mind last night. Let's say you have a set of Cybersyncs (Alien Bees triggers/receivers) and you have one of the Pocketwizard mini or Flex 5 units. If you put the mini (for sake of argument) on the camera and put the Cybersync trigger on that would it fire the the rest of the cybersync receivers?
Or in other words could you two strobes with Flex 5 on them and two with cybersyncs on them and fire them all (on manual)?
Did any of this make sense? |

->> If I uderstood you correctly, no. You could not fire 4 strives using the two different triggering systems. Once you plug in a sync cable into the heads, it removes the ability for the second set of strives to be logically triggered by the firing pair of strobes.
Like I said, that is if I understood you correctly. |

| ->> "Strives" should be strobes. |

->> I'm not even sure I understood me correctly-:). Let me try to paint the picture:
D3 with PW Mini TT1 in the hotshoe. That would fire say two SB-900s sitting on Flex TT5s. Now add a CST (Cybersync transmitter) to the Mini, putting it in the mini's hotshoe. Add two more SB-900s with Cybersync receivers (CSRB). Would the Cybersync transmitter fire the other two cybersync transmitters so that all four flash would fire? |

->> Okay, I gotcha.
Looking from that point of view I do not see a reason why it wouldn't. When I have done remotes with strobes, I put a cst in the hotshoe of the remote and it gets triggered by a csrb.
So I don't see why it wouldn't work with the set up that you just described. Why not try it and let us know. |

| ->> Randy I actually tried something like this with Pocket Wizards and cyber sync units. The issue became trigger duration and lag. It was a very hit & miss proposition. |

| ->> Thanks David and Eric. I didn't really even think about a possible lag. I don't have the wizards in yet (suppose to be here tomorrow...wasn't easy finding the Nikon versions in stock), but I have a set of cybersyncs so that is what got me thinking about it. |

->> The tt1/5 units are very reliable when just in the hotshoe itself....they are much more sketchy when you put a flash in them (on camera) and try to get em all to fire. Damn things had me chasing my arse in circles at saturdays wedding enough that i tossed em all in the bag and switched back to the cybers for the reception....flawless. I'm sure it was a setting...but sb800's are a pain to get in/out of menu mode, and frankly i didnt have the time nor the patience to sort it out with the 8 minutes i had until the intros....
As for firing both....no reason why it shouldnt. Thing is again, though that many of the "settings" are not accessible unless you are plugged into a pc to change em. Not overly convenient.
I'm really hoping the next firmware update clears up some of these little nagging issues
