Go Pro Cam in Low Light Hockey Rink?
Jim Pierce, Photographer

->> Has anyone used a Go Pro cam in low light, or relativly low light, conditions? I am looking at mounting one in one of my netcam boxes for an upcoming hockey tourney.

So the questions I have are:

1. Is the video a quality video in low light? Low light being relative to a Mark IV, at 1600, 4.0 640-800.

2. What size card will I need to video for 60 minutes at HD? I know what the site says but looking for real world experience.

3. How long does the battery last and how long to recharge?

4. What type of file does this video result in?

Just investigating this to get an idea on what the end result will be and how much I will need to spend on accesories, batteries, charger, memory, as well as work to edit the few clips that will be of value.

(sorry the video is compressed more than I would like).
The battery dies-and I usually get only about two periods (I pull it after the second period.) There is no time to get a good recharge, you would have to buy two batters and swap. I had 8GB card in there for the two periods.
16 should cover you for 3 periods. I shot at 720.
Those numbers are based on the assumption, you aren't turning it off for TV time-outs or for when they zamboni comes out.
I am usually editing and have only time to swap cards on the still camera in the net.
what are you editing in? It produces its only flavor of mpeg. If you are going to final cut, you need to run it through mpeg stream clip.

->> I have been using a GoPro HD since last summer.

1. Not that great. You can see what is going on, but the quality drops a lot in low-light situations.

2. I think 8GB is enough for the best quality (5). My GoPro creates a ~3GB file (which is about 40 minutes) at a time. So for 60 minutes, you'll see 2 files. I am not sure if you can change that.

The bigger card you have, the better. I have a 16GB card.

3. About 2 hours, supposedly, but I feel shorter. Recharging takes a lot (and I usually do overnight). I have 2 extra batteries just in case.

4. .MP4.
