Unfortunately, it's pretty cloudy in this part of NC also. |

I've got those photos on one of my hard drives and will get some posted to a gallery here later today. |

->> A 300mm f2.8 and a 1.4x or 2x can do the job. It was way too cloudy here in Central Illinois to shoot the moon last night, but here are a couple of frames from a lunar eclipse from two years ago that were done with a 1D Mark II with a 300mm f2.8 and 2x converter from my front yard on a VERY cold night.

I also have a 1200mm f4.7, but it is large and cumbersome and only works in manual focus. I have not tried to photograph the moon with it, but eventually I am going to do this. Here is a photo of the "lens." As it is roughly the size of an oil drum, you will NOT see me lugging this around at footballl games:

->> Nice photos everyone.
After a rainy day Saturday, I managed to shoot one quick photo off my back deck early this morning of the Super Moon setting. It is so beautiful when it's low on the horizon but once it's up, I think it looks like all the other full moon photos that I've done.
I went out tonight but couldn't find the perfect spot that I was hoping for. So, that shot is just a cropped one of the moon rise. (Yes, it's cropped closer than those of the eclipse.)
Maybe it's me but the closeness of the Moon to Earth seems more noticeable and the Moon appears to have more texture than my past attempts.
Anyway, I enjoyed getting out there and at least trying to get something. I plan to keep working on getting better at shooting the full moon.
The photos were added to my Lunar Eclipse gallery on PhotoShelter.

| ->> Chad, very nice! I really had trouble finding a decent shooting position. I know what I want to try, but can't find the landscape item. And just when I thought I found a website that would give me the rise/set times, I realized, too late, they did not account for daylight savings time. So instead of being an hour early, I was scrambling for a shooting spot. |

->> The circle of photography. Spending a week in Hilton Head (about my favorite place on earth). Up early to shoot the sunrise and a full/bright moon was greeting me. This is hand held, with a 300 2.8, 100% crop/or more. Stabilizer on, of course. Some post adjustment.
