Forced to eject CF card twice on MacBook Pro

->> Recently my MacBook Pro 17 inch laptop began popping up the "card in use and can't be ejected" warning when I tried to eject my CF cards. Now each time I want to eject a card I must eject it twice and then it releases.
I have tried different cards and readers and have searched the web but can't figure this one out.
Any ideas?
Thanks. |

| ->> I get the same when using PhotoMechanic. I used to have the card unmount when it was done ingesting, now that same message appears. |

->> What version of OS X are you using?
Apple Menu> About this Mac
Are you using PM or another application? What software, if any, do you use to transfer photos? |

->> Mac OS X 10.5.8
I am normally manually ejecting from the desktop after copying from PM or just a simple drag and drop from the CF card to the desktop.
This started about 4 months ago out of nowhere. |

->> I've seen this develop over time with certain card readers. Everything seems fine and then when you pull the disk it says you did not eject the card.
No clue where the corruption comes in. I remember years ago I kept getting the error. When I switched to a newer reader it was no longer a problem.
If you are using the same reader each time, try a different one to see if it works properly. |

->> A) Wait a minute and then try it again. Just because things have stopped "spinning" it doesn't mean that your computer has stopped sucking info from the CF card.
b) Hit Option-Command-Escape and re-start the Finder. This often clears up a lot of problems. |

->> I have tried restarting the Finder. I will try a different brand card reader to see what I get.
Thank you. |

->> I've had similar problems but as they occur with different readers and when using external HDDs, even when I have left them for a while so should have stopped interacting, I am guessing the issue lies within the operating system. I'm also on 10.5.8. The problem seemed to start occurring a while back for no apparent reason (same computer, reader and cards etc) so I have wondered if it was a bug in an update.
Usually I find that clearing the menus under Finder => Go => Reset Folder and Apple => Recent Items resolves the issue to the extent that it doesn't happen again with subsequent cards. |
