Zoom H4n or Tascam DR100?

->> Looking for an audio recorder and have narrowed it to the H4n or the DR100.
The primary use will be for sound for slide shows, etc. Will use it for some interviews, but primarily for getting background sounds, etc to assist in the story telling.
These 2 models seem very close, including price so I am looking for a tie breaker. I really don't think I would need the 4 track capability of the H4n but who knows.
I have seen prior threads a few months back, but I thought I'd throw the question back out for more opinions.
Thanks. |

| ->> I love my H4N. I don't have any experience with the DR100 for comparison, but I've had no complaints about the H4N. |

| ->> After consulting many videographers, I got the H4n. It looks great sitting on the table next to my piano. I'll let you know how awesome it is when I finish editing and keywording. If I stop shooting now, that should be August 2013. |

->> I had the same debate with myself awhile back, http://www.sportsshooter.com/message_display.html?tid=37191
I ended up buying a DR-100 and have been very happy. Superb audio quality, and the level knobs on the side make changing levels on the fly very easy. Also, the uni-directional mics that are built in are more usable than I was expecting.
I'd recommend it. |

| ->> One good thing about the Zoom H-4 is that it will take XLR cable inputs and will phantom power a mic that needs it. It will also take 1/4 inch plugs. Perhaps not important now but could be useful for future work. |

| ->> A quick update to my last post on this thread about recorders. I had purchased the small Zoom H1 and was happy with the quality of recordings but was unhappy that it would drain batteries overnight (a well documented flaw on some units). After the store replaced my defective H1 for the third time they gave me a refund and I put the money towards a Zoom H4n. All I can say is this is the recorder I should have bought in the first place ... it's awesome. |
