Is there a market for WHL photos?

->> Hello all,
I am based in Saskatoon, Canada. Most winters i will head out a fews time a season and shoot the local WHL (Western Hockey League) team the Saskatoon Blades, mainly just to stay sharp and keep my mind thinking about shooting sports while football is off. This year however the blades are doing very well and i can't help but find myself at the rink for most games. I have been paying alot more attention to the NHL draft picks playing in the WHL and have been keeping my ear to the ground on up and comers. This has translated to me editing and captioning way more images from each game than i have in the past. In hopes of having a easy to search archive. The market for WHL photos in Saskatoon is pretty bare. The team has a great photographer, South Creek has a photographer shooting the games, and there is only one paper in town, plus all the shooters are good friends of mine. My question to you all is, is there any market out there that i am missing for WHL photos and soon to be NHL players? Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Any publications, stock, or even blogs? Also if you would like to see some of my images and give me some criticism i would love that, right now i am just uploading them to flickr account. Feel free to rip them apart. you can see them at http://is.gd/jd7be1
if you would like to email some thoughts please do = photo at liamrichards dot com |

->> From my searching in years past for the AHL, as well as covering some games, there just is not a market out there for them. Every small magazine or site I talked to was all free - they either had shooters doing it free or they got the images from the league/teams free. AHL photographer I know said they had to sign a contract that allowed the team to send them to the league and the team/league could do pretty much anything they wanted with the images.
Did exactly what you're talking about for a little bit, got the prospects, got the guys who are news worthy or will be in the hockey world - but there was not much of a bite at all, couple here and there interested, but mention they can use it for x-amount and they ran, er skated, away. Beyond the team, which out here paid horribly and think they've since cut it to an intern position, don't see much. |

| ->> With the way the industry is going there isn't a market for much of anything anymore. Top level college hockey doesn't even have a a market. |

| ->> Hey Liam, you know what I am in the market for - Saskatoon Berry jelly & jam! Nothing like it anywhere! And we can't get it down here. So if the hockey photos go soft, there's options for ya! |
