->> According to this blog, Corbis Sygma is destroying some 12 million images from the Sygma archive after filing for bankruptcy.

Anybody know about this?

->> I've just spent nearly $2000 to have my archives shipped to me from Globe Photos in New York. They sent out letters late last year saying that they'd digitized everything they needed to, were consolidating space and would get rid of the originals if photographers didn't want to pay for the materials to be shipped.

Bear in mind that Globe has given what I consider to be a decent amount of notice and not charged for packing the stuff (so far 45 boxes weighing between 25 and 50 pounds each). They've been reasonable about everything. I consider myself to be lucky.

I now have my archives in a safe place (except for the odd tornado) and I can spend my retirement years going through them all.

->> I do not get this they paid for you to ship images to them now you have to pay to get back what they wanted? This is B.S. I had an agency tell me that a while a go, after abit of arguing they paid to ship me my images back.

->> We're talking over 20 years worth of material brought over from another agency in the late-90's. They've been reasonable custodians and have continued to sell the photos.

My statement is just a warning to other photographers with large archives that at some point in the near future you're probably going to have to find enough room to store your own stuff and you'll probably have to pay to get it returned.
