Sat Phones & BGAN

->> Any of you intrepid worldwide travelers on this site have experience with sat phones and/or BGAN units? Any suggestions on the best units, places to buy, and reasonable service plans for each?

Has anyone tried the Inmarsat iSatPhone Pro?

Anybody ever try to xmit image(s) using a sat phone rather than BGAN (was it painfully slow and expensive?)

And yes, I did check the archives but there's nothing very recent on this subject.

->> I rented an iridium phone a few years ago from a place called Outfitter Satellite Inc. GPSPhones.com They were very helpful and informative. I used it in Kenya where, as it turned out, I could have used an unlocked cel phone and a sim card purchased locally almost anywhere in the country.

These days BGAN is the way to go, they have smaller units that are easy to set up.

The data speeds are much higher than a standard SAT phone.

->> the bgan is the way to go. you can always buy cheap cell phones in most countries and cheaper minutes. bgans have some very small units and blazing data transmission speeds.

->> Any recommendations on specific BGAN units or reasonable service plans?

Also hoping to find some user comments on the iSatPhone Pro (or compared to an Iridium phone).
